About the Job: General Assistant (External Applications Only)
Job Description:
Cashbuild are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused General Assistant to join our team. This role is open to external applicants only. As a General Assistant, you will be a key contributor to ensuring a positive and efficient shopping experience for our customers. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around providing comprehensive customer service within the store, maintaining visually appealing and well-organized merchandise displays, accurately labeling shelf prices, and maintaining a clean and orderly environment within your designated area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Cashbuild provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering inquiries about products and store policies, assisting with product selection, and resolving customer issues in a friendly and efficient manner.
- Merchandising: Implement visual merchandising strategies to effectively showcase products and attract customers. This includes arranging stock according to planograms, ensuring proper product placement, and creating attractive displays.
- Shelf Price Labeling: Ensure accurate and up-to-date price labeling on all shelves and products within your designated area. This includes verifying prices, replacing damaged or missing labels, and promptly implementing price changes as directed.
- Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment within your designated area of responsibility. This includes regularly sweeping or vacuuming floors, dusting shelves, removing trash, and ensuring aisles are free of obstructions.
- Stock Management: Assist with receiving, unpacking, and stocking merchandise, ensuring proper rotation of stock to minimize waste and maximize freshness.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth store operations and achieve common goals.
- Adherence to Policies: Adhere to all store policies and procedures, including safety regulations and loss prevention measures.
Requirements:
To qualify,
You need at least a Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification (NQF level 3) plus one year of job experience. Alternatively, a Grade 12 certificate is acceptable even without prior work experience. You should be able to speak English and the main language of the area where the job is located. You also need a valid South African ID or a work permit. Being able to do simple math correctly is important. You must be prepared to work different shifts, including weekends and holidays. Finally, you should be able to handle working in stressful situations.
Customer Service
Help Cashbuild customers choose the right products and answer their questions.
Help with and fix customer problems.
Merchandising Standards
Organize Cashbuild stock in the storage area safely, following the store’s layout.
Keep your assigned area stocked and arranged as shown in the store’s layout and plans.
Housekeeping
Keep your area clear of hazards, put Cashbuild stock on shelves right away, and make sure customers can move around safely and comfortably.
Make sure prices on shelves are correct in your area.
Fill out required checklists when working, including the canteen and bathroom/shower schedule.
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
Follow all Cashbuild safety rules.
Follows company rules and meets deadlines when making choices.
Considers the results of choices made within their job.
Puts choices into action using the right steps and rules.

Creates plans that fit with the work area’s rules.
