We need a qualified person who has:
License: A current Rigger License (extra safety training like Crane Operation or First Aid is a plus).
Work History: At least 5 years working as a Rigger Supervisor or in a similar job doing rigging.
Know-How: A complete knowledge of how to rig things, the tools used, and safety rules.
Planning Skills: Able to plan and run lifting jobs well, including figuring out weights and picking the right gear.
Safety Mindset: Knows safety rules, how to check for dangers, and how to follow the rules.
Communication Skills: Speaks English and/or Afrikaans well and can lead and work with others.
Computer Skills: Must be able to use computers.
Transportation: Must have a driver’s license and a way to get to work.
Schedule: Able to work weekends and extra hours when needed.
Key Responsibilities: Rigger Supervisor
As a Rigger Supervisor in this pivotal role, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the safe and efficient execution of all rigging operations on site. Your primary responsibility will be to create a safe and productive work environment for the rigging teams, meticulously adhering to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our projects and the well-being of our team members.

Your key responsibilities will encompass the following areas:
- Hazard Identification and Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential workplace hazards through thorough site inspections and risk assessments. This includes not only recognizing existing dangers but also anticipating potential risks based on the evolving nature of the project. Implement practical and effective solutions, ranging from engineering controls to procedural changes, to mitigate identified risks and prevent accidents. Document all hazard identification and mitigation efforts meticulously.
- Rigging Team Leadership and Coordination: Supervise and coordinate the activities of rigging teams, ensuring clear communication, efficient workflow, and adherence to safe work practices. This includes assigning tasks based on individual skills and experience, providing clear instructions, and fostering a collaborative team environment. You will be responsible for mentoring and guiding team members, promoting a culture of safety consciousness and continuous improvement.
- Rigging System Planning and Oversight: Plan and oversee the setup and operation of rigging systems for the safe and secure lifting and movement of heavy equipment and materials. This requires a deep understanding of rigging principles, load capacities, and equipment limitations. You will be responsible for ensuring the correct selection and utilization of rigging hardware, including cranes, slings, hoists, and other lifting devices. This includes regular review of load charts and critical lifts.
- Safety Compliance and Regulatory Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with all relevant safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. This includes staying up-to-date on the latest regulatory requirements and industry standards. You will be responsible for conducting regular safety audits and inspections to identify any areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Risk Assessment and PPE Enforcement: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments prior to the commencement of any rigging activity. This includes evaluating potential hazards, assessing the severity of potential consequences, and implementing appropriate control measures. Enforce the mandatory use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all rigging personnel, ensuring that PPE is properly fitted, maintained, and used correctly.
- Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Implement a robust inspection and maintenance program for all rigging equipment. This includes conducting regular inspections to identify any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained, repaired, or replaced in a timely manner to maintain its safe operating condition and compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards. Maintain detailed records of all inspections and maintenance activities.
