Job Overview

As a Control Systems Supervisor, you will play a vital role in managing programming teams to ensure that projects align with defined scopes and timelines. Your expertise in PLC programming, combined with your ability to lead and motivate a team, will be crucial in driving successful outcomes. This position requires a strong understanding of various programming languages and control systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as Control Systems Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Project Management:
  • Oversee programming teams to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Set programming milestones and enforce adherence to deadlines and project specifications.

  • Provide support and guidance to team members, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge required to meet project goals.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and provide constructive feedback to team members and superiors.
  1. Documentation and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all control system documentation is accurately completed upon project completion.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures to maintain a compliant and efficient work environment.
  1. Testing and Validation:
  • Supervise the testing and validation of machines before customer acceptance, ensuring that all systems meet specified requirements.
  1. Client Liaison:
  • Communicate confidently with clients throughout the project lifecycle, addressing any questions or concerns promptly and professionally.
  1. Technical Support:
  • Provide production support during projects, troubleshooting issues as they arise and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Travel locally and internationally to assist with the installation and commissioning of facilities on-site.
  1. Integration and Programming Adjustments:
  • Integrate and interface with other site machines using various communication protocols (Serial, Digital, Ethernet, Profi-bus, etc.).
  • Modify and adjust existing programs to enhance system performance.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Actively participate in project-related meetings, contributing valuable insights and solutions to challenges.
  • Collaborate with fellow employees to ensure cohesive teamwork and shared objectives.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, we are looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
  • A minimum of a Grade 12 certificate, along with a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or similar is preferred.
  • Language Proficiency:
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is required. Knowledge of Afrikaans and/or German is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of PLC programming experience, particularly in the automotive industry. Familiarity with Siemens, Beckhoff, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, or Omron PLCs is essential.
  • Proven experience interfacing SCADA, motion control, robotic, and measuring systems to PLC applications.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of computer and PLC system configuration, as well as the ability to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design and simulation.
  • Practical troubleshooting skills related to electrical circuitry and control systems.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a systematic approach to work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface confidently with technical professionals and clients.
  • Other Requirements:
  • A valid driver’s license (Code 8 or higher) is necessary.
