Key Responsibilities:

In your new role as a Junior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are crucial to the design process. Here’s what you can expect to do:

  1. Design and Detailing:
    You will engage in the design and detailing of small special-purpose applications, working closely with senior design engineers to ensure that all designs meet customer specifications and requirements.
  2. Concept Development:
    Collaborating with your team, you will assist in developing effective design solutions that align with project goals, utilizing your creativity and technical skills to bring ideas to life.
  3. Component Specification:
    It will be your responsibility to specify components needed for procurement, ensuring that all parts meet the necessary standards and specifications for functionality and quality.
  4. Engineering Change Requests (ECR):
    You will handle design changes and detailing for small fixtures and tools, supporting the continuous improvement of design processes.
  5. Assembly Support:
    During the assembly phase of projects, you will assist with assembling components, ensuring that the integration of designs is seamless and effective.
  6. Documentation and Compliance:
    You will create design release packages for manufacturing, maintaining compliance with ISO procedures throughout the project lifecycle, including project handover, concept development, design realization, and sign-off.
  7. Collaboration and Teamwork:
    Being a team player is essential. You will collaborate with various team members, sharing ideas and contributing to a positive and productive work environment.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Educational Background:
    A formal tertiary education in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics is required, with a National Diploma or higher being preferred.
  • Driver’s License:
    A valid Code 8 driver’s license is necessary to facilitate any required travel for project purposes.
  • Language Proficiency:
    Proficiency in English (speak, read, and write) is essential. Knowledge of Afrikaans is also required, and fluency in German would be advantageous.
  • Professional Experience:
    A minimum of one year of experience in a design capacity is required. This experience should include:
  • Competence in concept development and design calculations.
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Basic understanding of material specifications and processes.
  • Basic machine calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
