Job Purpose

The Part-Time Lecturer will be responsible for training and educating students, providing student consultations, establishing a knowledge base through academic research and development, and supporting Academic Development Consultants.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lecturing & Facilitation: Deliver lectures, facilitate student support workshops, and run subject-specific tutorials as required.
  • Teaching and Learning Support: Assist in developing teaching & learning capacity, ensuring academic conventions are communicated and upheld.
  • Coordination & Collaboration: Collaborate with librarians to provide information literacy to students and lecturers. Coordinate and run lecturer forums and faculty meetings under the direction of Academic Development Consultants.
  • Research & Development: Engage in academic research and development.
  • Team Support: Support colleagues and contribute to a collaborative academic environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Academic Qualifications:
    • Minimum of an Honours Degree, including a B.Ed. in the Intermediate Phase / B.Ed. Honour’s degree in Intermediate Phase / Honours degree in a related field with a PGCE specializing in the Intermediate Phase.
  • Experience:
    • 3 years of teaching experience in the Intermediate Phase.
    • 1-3 years of lecturing experience (ideal).

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of the South African higher education system and regulatory framework.
  • Understanding of Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.
  • Ability to provide student support services.
  • Proficiency in digitalized academic platforms.
  • Adaptability to a frequently changing environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong time management skills.

Working Hours

  • Classes are scheduled between 08:00 AM and 05:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Your working hours will be determined based on the modules assigned according to the timetable.
