Purpose of Position:
This louis trichardt position is critical to the smooth operation of the Care Centre and requires a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist. The primary purpose is to provide exceptional customer service to all patients while meticulously collecting blood and non-blood specimens for accurate and timely medical pathology analysis. The Phlebotomist must operate within the strict legal and ethical framework of the nursing profession, adhering to all regulations and best practices within a phlebotomy environment. This involves ensuring patient comfort and safety, accurate specimen labeling, and adherence to strict hygiene protocols.
Essential Requirements:
- Professional Registration: Must be currently registered with either the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) OR the South African Nursing Council (SANC). This registration must be active and in good standing.
- Relevant Qualification: Must possess a relevant qualification in Phlebotomy or Nursing. This qualification should demonstrate a thorough understanding of venipuncture techniques, specimen handling, and related medical procedures.
- Legal Right to Work: Applicants MUST have a valid South African Identification Document (ID) OR a valid South African Work Permit. Applications from individuals without these documents will not be considered.
Required Experience:
- Proven experience working as a Phlebotomist or in a similar role within a pathology laboratory or hospital environment is essential. This experience should demonstrate proficiency in venipuncture techniques, specimen handling procedures, and adherence to quality control measures. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a high-volume setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Relations and Image Promotion: Maintain excellent client relations by providing compassionate and professional service. This includes actively promoting a positive image of Ampath by adhering to the company’s customer service standards and projecting a professional demeanor at all times. Respond to patient inquiries with courtesy and accuracy, ensuring their comfort and understanding throughout the specimen collection process.
- Financial Management: Manage the financial aspects of the Care Centre effectively, including the collection and accurate recording of payments for phlebotomy services rendered. This includes handling cash, processing transactions, and adhering to established financial protocols. Ensure accurate record-keeping of all financial transactions and reconcile cash flow on a regular basis.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative tasks efficiently and accurately to ensure the correct recording and processing of patient information. This includes verifying patient identification, completing requisition forms, entering data into the laboratory information system (LIS), and maintaining accurate records of specimen collection.
- Phlebotomy Procedures: Perform phlebotomy procedures with precision and adherence to established protocols to ensure the efficient and sufficient delivery of Care Centre services. This includes selecting appropriate venipuncture sites, employing proper techniques for minimizing patient discomfort, and ensuring the collection of adequate specimen volumes for testing.
- Safety and Quality Control: Perform routine safety and quality control tasks diligently to ensure that all relevant standards are upheld. This includes maintaining a clean and organized work environment, adhering to infection control protocols, performing equipment maintenance, and participating in quality assurance programs. Document all quality control activities and report any deviations from established standards.
