Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Dispensary Manager for their Wynberg store. The successful candidate will oversee the dispensary, ensuring that pharmaceutical care meets the needs of the patients. The role includes managing staff, self-medication areas, stock control, and ensuring compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Dispensary Management

  • Oversee staffing levels in the dispensary and self-medication areas to ensure that staff works within their scope of practice.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice regulations and SAPC standards.
  • Monitor stock to ensure that expired or short-dated stock is disposed of properly and that stock levels are maintained.
  • Manage stocktake preparations and ensure that stock ordering procedures are followed to comply with purchasing standards.

Medication Management & Patient Care

  • Accurately interpret prescriptions, ensuring that medication is dispensed correctly and in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Provide accurate patient instructions regarding the use of medication.
  • Process medical aid claims and ensure that the required authorizations for chronic, HIV, and oncology medication are obtained.
  • Maintain customer profiles and ensure that all information is up to date and relevant.
  • Ensure the security of Schedule 6 medication and maintain the register for auditing purposes.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Supervise and lead a team of dispensary staff, ensuring that roles are well defined and that staff members are working to their full potential.
  • Provide training for staff, especially for the Dispensary Admin Assistant to ensure the admin function runs smoothly.
  • Manage conflict, promote teamwork, and maintain a positive working environment.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience in staff supervision
  • Familiarity with Unisolv
  • Computer literate, including MS Office
  • Strong numerical skills and a good command of English (both written and verbal)
  • Willingness to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • At least 7 years of management experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in retail/FMCG and E-scripting
  • Familiarity with SAP and Unisolv

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations and experience with E-scripting
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine

Special Conditions of Employment

  • SAPC registration is a must.
  • Must be physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
  • Clear credit and criminal records.
