Position Purpose
The primary purpose of the Trainee Yard Official position is to develop a fully competent and certified Yard Official through a structured and comprehensive transnet freight training program. The selected candidate will embark on a modular training journey, meticulously designed to provide both the transnet freight theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for effectively and safely managing yard operations. Successful completion of each required module, culminating in certification, is a mandatory requirement for advancement within the organization. This training will ensure the Trainee Yard Official is equipped to handle the diverse responsibilities and challenges inherent in the Yard Official role.
Position Outputs & Responsibilities
- Complete Theoretical Training: The transnet freight Trainee Yard Official will be required to attend and actively participate in a comprehensive theoretical training program. This transnet freight program will cover a broad range of topics relevant to yard operations, including safety regulations, equipment operation principles, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and emergency response procedures. Successful completion requires demonstrating a strong understanding of the material through assessments, quizzes, and examinations, all to be finished within the prescribed timeframe.
- Complete Practical Training: Following the theoretical training, the Trainee Yard Official will engage in an intensive practical training program. This hands-on experience will provide the opportunity to apply the learned theory in a real-world yard environment. This transnet freight includes supervised operation of various equipment, involvement in daily yard activities, and exposure to different operational scenarios. Trainees will receive direct mentorship from experienced Yard Officials and supervisors to ensure proper technique and adherence to safety protocols. Like the theoretical training, this module will also have a prescribed time frame for completion.
- Develop Operational Competency and Accountability: Throughout the training period, the Trainee Yard Official will progressively develop the competency to perform a wide range of operational tasks and safely operate assigned equipment. By the end of the training program, the individual will be held accountable for the accurate and efficient execution of assigned jobs. This includes demonstrating proficiency in tasks such as loading and unloading materials, conducting inventory checks, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining the overall order and safety of the yard.
- Achieve Work Assignments and Goals Aligned with Strategic Objectives: The Trainee Yard Official will be expected to consistently accomplish work assignments and contribute to the achievement of operational goals, all while remaining aligned with the Training Program curriculum, the company’s overarching strategic objectives, and its long-term vision. This requires a proactive approach, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to contributing to the success of the overall team. This also includes upholding the company’s core values in all activities.
- Maintain Comprehensive Training Records: The Trainee Yard Official will be responsible for meticulously maintaining comprehensive records, creating a detailed portfolio of evidence documenting all aspects of their theoretical and practical training experience. This portfolio will serve as a formal record of their progress and will be utilized to demonstrate their qualifications for certification and future career advancement within the company. These records may include training certificates, performance evaluations, observation reports, and examples of completed work. Accurate and thorough documentation is essential for ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the training program.
Needed Skills and Background:
➢ Must have at least a high school diploma.
➢ Must pass a mental ability test.
➢ Must pass a health test for the job, including vision and hearing.
➢ Able to use computers.
➢ In good physical condition.
➢ Must finish and pass both classroom and hands-on training to become a Yard Official.
