Job Overview
Hire Resolve’s client, a leader in the shop fitting industry, is seeking a General Steel Manager to lead operations in their Steel Division. This role is based in Benoni and demands a strategic and detail-oriented leader with experience in steel manufacturing, particularly for retail and shop-fitting applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Production and Quality Control:
- Direct and coordinate steel production activities to meet established standards.
- Ensure compliance with production timelines and quality benchmarks.
- Warehouse and Stock Management:
- Oversee three warehouses in different provinces, managing staff, stock, and premises.
- Maintain accurate stock records through weekly stock management.
- Conduct quarterly stocktakes and ensure proper documentation.
- Procurement and Client Management:
- Manage purchase orders from various suppliers and provide accurate client quotations.
- Forecast steel requirements for upcoming projects and ensure timely procurement.
- Oversee steel extractions and deliveries, utilizing advanced Excel spreadsheets for tracking.
- Supervise clients’ stock and coordinate deliveries based on their requests.
- Sales and Budgeting:
- Ensure monthly sales journals and proper financial allocations.
- Collaborate on yearly sales budget creation and contribute to achieving sales targets.
- Powder Coating and Transport Logistics:
- Oversee powder coating processes to ensure cost optimization and client discounts.
- Manage transport logistics and supply chain operations for five companies.
- Relationship Building:
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, focusing on retention and identifying new business opportunities.
- Conduct site visits and resolve any operational challenges as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric) is required.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a General Management role.
- 3-5 years of experience in steel manufacturing, especially in retail/shop fitting steel.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and locations efficiently.
- Proactive planning and resource optimization skills.
- Commitment to quality management and achieving excellence.
- Travel:
- Willingness to travel between provinces as required.
