The main job of the HIV Ambassador is to get communities involved and create a need for services to reach the UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals. This means talking to nearby clinics to understand what programs are most important to them. Then, the Ambassador will run campaigns and events to spread awareness and encourage people to use those programs. Also, the HIV Ambassador will work with important community leaders (youth groups, traditional leaders, local government) to increase the desire for health services.
The HIV Ambassador will also help clinics find patients who have missed appointments in the areas where they live. This includes people on HIV and TB treatment who haven’t come in, mothers and babies, people with high viral loads, getting information on contacts of people who test positive and pregnant women.
Needed qualifications:
Must have at least a grade 10 certificate.
Must be living with HIV and willing to share this.
Must be a health champion in the community, especially for HIV/AIDS.
Being able to speak English is required, isiXhosa is helpful.
Must have at least 2 years of experience in counseling and testing.
Must have basic skills in HIV counseling and testing.
Job Tasks:
Teach people in communities about HIV, AIDS, and TB, following the 95-95-95 plan.
Get a list of people who missed appointments from the Data Capturer and find them each day.
Organize campaigns in certain communities to teach about the importance of knowing your HIV and TB status (95-95-95), fighting stigma and discrimination, and staying on treatment.
Use community events and groups to share information.
Help patients join support groups based on what they want.
Work with other healthcare workers to meet goals.
Keep patient information private.
Help with office work, like writing daily and other reports.
