About the Role
The Therapy Group Practice at Nurture Montana is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join its team at the newly commissioned 36-bed physical rehabilitation hospital in Montana, Gauteng. Nurture Health offers acute and sub-acute rehabilitation treatment for individuals with disabilities caused by disease or injury. Patients may include those recovering from spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, and other debilitating conditions.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist will play a vital role in supporting patients to regain independence and lead meaningful lives, despite their challenges or circumstances.
Requirements, Qualifications, and Experience
- Educational Requirements:
- BSc in Occupational Therapy (community service year completed).
- Professional Registration:
- Registered as an independent practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Valid malpractice insurance.
- Compliance with CPD requirements as per HPCSA standards.
- Additional Training and Skills:
- Bobath / NDT training (advantageous).
- Basic and intermediate wheelchair training (beneficial).
- Special interest and experience in orthopedics, neurology (CVA, TBI, SCI), and vocational readiness.
- Familiarity with the ICF Framework.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a physical rehabilitation environment.
- Proven ability to coordinate projects, people, or services.
- Extensive knowledge of clinical practices in physical rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster therapeutic relationships within the interdisciplinary team.
- Set and implement joint therapeutic goals with patients, families, and the care team.
- Provide evidence-based interventions.
- Conduct detailed assessments and assist in developing individualized rehabilitation plans.
- Educate patients and families about post-rehabilitation care and assistive devices.
- Support vocational readiness and wheelchair mobility training.
- Contribute to weekend or public holiday coverage on a rotational basis.
