Key Responsibilities: Maintaining a Spotless and Safe Environment

As a Cleaner at Tembisa Hospital, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. These tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Thorough Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and waxing floors in patient rooms, hallways, offices, and other areas of the hospital.
  • Surface Sanitization: Disinfecting and sanitizing surfaces, including countertops, tables, chairs, and medical equipment, to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Waste Management: Emptying trash and recycling bins and disposing of waste materials in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Restroom Maintenance: Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, ensuring they are adequately stocked with supplies.
  • Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet cleaners.
  • Stock Management: Monitoring and replenishing cleaning supplies, notifying supervisors when supplies are low.
  • Adherence to Protocols: Following all hospital policies and procedures related to cleaning, hygiene, and safety.
  • Spill Response: Responding promptly and effectively to spills and other cleaning emergencies.

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience in a similar cleaning role, preferably within a healthcare or commercial setting. This experience should showcase your understanding of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
  • Cleaning Proficiency: A solid understanding of various cleaning products and equipment, including their proper use and safety precautions. This includes knowledge of disinfectants, sanitizers, and floor care products.
  • Physical Stamina: The ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, bending, and reaching.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to ensure that all areas are cleaned thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Independent Work Ethic: The ability to complete tasks on time with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and a strong work ethic.
  • Flexible Availability: Availability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed, as the hospital operates 24/7.
  • Educational Qualification: A minimum Grade 9 or N1 qualification.
  • Citizenship/Residency: Must be a South African citizen or lawfully resident in South Africa.
  • Location Requirement: Must not require travel or relocation to accept the position.

  • Competitive Salary: A salary range of R8,500 – R10,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
