PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Junior Field Technician Louis Trichardt, South Africa Full-Time Field Services 2025The primary purpose of the Field Technician Junior role is to proactively oversee and expertly lead the installation, repair, and maintenance activities pertaining to both Wireless and Fibre optic networks. This position focuses particularly on standard residential and small, basic business installations, repairs, and site surveys. The Field Technician Junior will be a crucial front-line representative, ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of our network infrastructure within customer premises. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE AREAS:

General Responsibilities:
- Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Diligently follow all established SOPs and procedures to ensure consistent quality, safety, and efficiency in all tasks performed. This field technician includes adhering to installation guidelines, troubleshooting protocols, and reporting standards.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely and effectively with a designated Team Leader and Scheduler, providing regular updates on progress, challenges, and any deviations from the planned schedule. Open and proactive communication is crucial for successful project execution.
- Documentation and Reporting: Meticulously maintain accurate project and safety documentation, including site survey reports, installation records, troubleshooting logs, and equipment usage logs. Provide timely and accurate reports and updates on all work completed, detailing the actions taken, the results achieved, and any outstanding issues.
- Inventory Management: Ensure that all relevant stock and equipment necessary for scheduled work are readily available and in good working order. Proactively communicate any anticipated shortages or equipment malfunctions to the Team Leader to minimize disruptions.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain all assigned tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Report any defects or required repairs promptly to prevent operational delays.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Health and Safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others. This includes using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following established safety protocols for working at heights, in confined spaces, and with electrical equipment.
- Safety Documentation: Diligently complete all required SHER (Safety, Health, Environment, and Risk) and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) documentation accurately and on time, contributing to a culture of safety and compliance.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Fibre Troubleshooting: Proficiently diagnose and resolve issues related to fibre optic networks, including performing splicing, testing, and dome management tasks to ensure optimal signal transmission and network performance.
- Wireless Troubleshooting: Effectively troubleshoot wireless network issues, including conducting signal testing on Customer Premises Equipment (CPEs) and access points to optimize signal strength and coverage, as well as assessing and resolving bandwidth capacity constraints.
- Basic Network Troubleshooting: Possess a strong understanding of basic network principles and be able to troubleshoot common network issues such as IP address conflicts, firewall misconfigurations, and routing problems.
- VoIP System Installation: Competently install and configure Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems for both residential and small business customers, ensuring proper functionality and integration with existing network infrastructure.
Customer Service and Operational Responsibilities:
- Excellent Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by interacting professionally and respectfully with customers, explaining technical issues clearly, and ensuring their satisfaction with the completed work.
- Flexible Work Schedule: Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule by being available to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call-outs as required to meet customer needs and maintain network uptime.
- Working at Heights and in Confined Spaces: Be comfortable and proficient in working at heights, including on house roofs, telephone/gum poles, and large buildings, while adhering to strict safety protocols. Also, be capable of working in crawl spaces and other small, confined areas for installation purposes.
