Detailed Responsibilities:
The NHLS Cleaner (Housekeeping) / Messenger will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment, ensuring the efficient flow of information and materials, and providing support to laboratory staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and Sanitization: Thorough NHLS cleaning and sanitization of laboratory surfaces, equipment, and common areas, adhering to strict hygiene protocols. This NHLS includes cleaning of high windows and applying various cleaning procedures such as waxing floors.
- Waste Management: Proper disposal of laboratory waste, including hazardous materials, in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
- Material Handling: Transporting specimens, supplies, and other materials within the laboratory and between departments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Messenger Duties: Delivering documents, packages, and other items to various locations within the hospital campus and potentially off-site locations as required.
- Inventory Management: Assisting with inventory management of cleaning supplies and notifying supervisors when supplies need to be replenished.
- Equipment Maintenance: Performing minor maintenance tasks on cleaning equipment and reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Compliance: Adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Other Duties: Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Requirements and Key Competencies:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills to be considered for this position:
- Education: Minimum of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
- Training: Completion of 1-2 months of on-the-job training in cleaning and messenger duties.
- Experience: Prior experience working in a laboratory or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of health and safety principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of cleaning machinery, cleaning materials, and chemicals, including proper usage and safety precautions.
- Familiarity with the layout and logistics of a campus/hospital/laboratory environment.
- Skills:
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact professionally and courteously with laboratory staff, patients, and visitors.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in cleaning and handling materials to ensure accuracy and prevent contamination.
