Job Description: Storeman
Purpose of the Role:
Empact are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Storeman to become an integral part of our dynamic team. In this empact role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive administration and control of all stock within the store. This empact includes meticulously managing inventory levels, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and implementing effective stock rotation procedures. You will be the primary point of contact for direct communication with empact suppliers, building and maintaining strong relationships to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
Furthermore, you will work closely with internal staff, fulfilling their stock requests and providing assistance with any related inquiries. A key aspect of this position involves the supervision and guidance of the empact Store Associate, requiring leadership skills and the ability to effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities. The empact overall goal is to maintain an efficient and well-organized stockroom operation, minimizing waste and ensuring the smooth flow of materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records, utilizing our inventory management system.
- Receive, inspect, and store incoming deliveries, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders.
- Control stock levels and initiate replenishment orders as needed, preventing stockouts and overstocking.
- Liaise directly with suppliers to resolve discrepancies, negotiate pricing, and ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Fulfill stock requests from internal departments, ensuring prompt and accurate distribution of materials.
- Implement and maintain effective stock rotation procedures (e.g., FIFO – First In, First Out) to minimize spoilage and obsolescence.
- Supervise and train the Store Associate, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
- Conduct regular stocktakes and reconcile discrepancies between physical inventory and system records.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe stockroom environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Assist with other related duties as required by empact management.
Desirable Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrable work experience in a storekeeping, warehousing, or inventory management role.
- Matric (or equivalent) is essential. A Logistics qualification (e.g., diploma or certificate in warehousing, supply chain management) would be a significant advantage.
- Previous experience working within a hospitality environment (e.g., hotel, restaurant, catering) is highly preferred but not strictly essential, as comprehensive training on our specific products and procedures will be provided.
- Experience with inventory management systems is highly desirable.
- Proven supervisory experience, including the ability to delegate tasks, provide constructive feedback, and motivate team members.
- A valid driver’s license is required, as you may be required to operate company vehicles for deliveries or pick-ups.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Proficient computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and inventory management software.
- Strong numerical aptitude and calculation skills, with the ability to accurately perform inventory calculations, cost analysis, and reconciliation.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain a well-organized work environment.
- Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with suppliers, colleagues, and management.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and under pressure, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to delegate tasks effectively and provide clear instructions and guidance to team members.
Main duties:
Order supplies and communicate with suppliers after getting approval from the Project/Assistant Catering Manager.
Make sure the prices and amounts match on the order form and bill.
Give out stock and food to other departments.
Measure all food given to staff for cooking.
Control how much stock is kept, staying within budget by keeping stock levels between a set minimum and maximum.
Help with counting stock each week and month.
Fill out all safety records correctly and on time.
Oversee the storeroom, fridge, and freezer.
Make sure the storeroom, fridge, and freezer are locked and always clean.
Check the quality and labels of all items coming into the storage area.
Get all deliveries from suppliers and ensure everything is in good condition.
May need to work weekends.
Ensure all stock is put away after each meal.
Ensure food products are checked for quality.
Keep strict control in the fridge, freezer, and storeroom.
Work together with the Project/Assistant Catering Manager and Catering Supervisors.
